Is the No Child Left Behind Act Any Good?

The National Assessment of Educational Progess reported on reading and math exams given to hundreds of thousands of students.

Now proponents of the No Child Left Behind Act are claiming that it is working; opponents are claiming that it isn’t.

Since the NCLB Act was put into effect in 2002, a large amount of opposition to it has developed. No wonder - the act was designed by a few people and covers a very complex program. There was no comprehensive research following the scientific method done in designing the act.

America must learn that before we spend billions of dollars on national reform programs, we must have a permanent specialized SM-14 type national research center on the big picture of education. Because we don’t have one, the NCLB Act is causing great troubles in many areas, including teachers and state officials. Many taxpayer dollars are being wasted in trying to implement an untested and poorly designed act.
