How to Beat the Experts
We all envy the experts and wish we were as knowledgeable as they are. However, if you have a problem and can’t afford or find an expert, the scientific method can often help you beat the experts. Because most of our experts are not adequately trained in the scientific method, they don’t use it the way they should. This gives you an opportunity to beat them. Judgment, bias, incomplete searches, not enough testing, and falsification are common complaints about “experts.”
So just become your own expert. The scientific method provides the guide to solving your own problem. Study SM-14. Go through all the mental activity stages. The more important the problem or decision, the more time you spend on each stage.
The scientific method guide doesn’t allow you to grasp one idea and run with it. You must consider all alternatives ideas and evaluate them before settling on the one that tests out the best. Even when you make the educated guess or hypothesis, you must challenge it. Not only must you test it and produce evidence that it is correct, you must also try to falsify it.
The self-correction features of the scientific method are many. When you are all done, you have more than just an opinion. You have an expert evaluation of your solution.
Thus, the scientific method allows a larger population to do expert work that they couldn’t do if they did not have the scientific method as a guide and source of information.
