An Old Saying Relates to the Scientific Method
“Give a hungry man a fish and you’ve given him a meal. Teach him how to fish and you’ve given him a living.”
Teach students subject matter, and they will remember some of it. Teach them the scientific method, and you’ve given them the method of utilizing their knowledge and making a living. The scientific method is the way we originate, refine, extend, and apply knowledge in all fields through problem origination, prevention, solution, and challenge of solution.
For this reason, it has often been said that the greatest discovery in science was the discovery of the scientific method of discovery, commonly called the scientific method.
Stage 4 of SM-14, Search, Explore and Gather the Evidence, is like a fishing expedition. You must look everywhere, explore new areas, and gather the evidence and knowledge you need to help solve your problem. So whether it’s fishing or making a living, the scientific method will be a major aid to you all through your life.
